Community Health Nursing
Community Health Nursing course is designed to help the students to develop broad perspectives of health, health care delivery services, health care policies, regulations in India, specialized roles and responsibilities of community health nurses. It prepares students to provide primary healthcare to clients of all ages in the community and to practice in various specialized health care settings and National Health Programs. It helps the students to develop knowledge and understanding of environmental science and apply the principles and concepts of BCC and
health education for health promotion and maintenance of health within the community in wellness and illness continuum.

Objectives
- Develop basic understanding about the health care planning and the present health care
delivery system, health care policies and regulations in India. - Demonstrate understanding about an overview of environmental science, environmental
health and sanitation - Demonstrate skill in nutritional assessment for different age groups in the community and
provide appropriate nutritional counseling - Provide health education to individuals and families.
- Describe the role and responsibilities of community health nursing personnel
- Utilize the knowledge and skills in providing comprehensive primary health care across
the life span at various settings - Demonstrate beginning practice competencies/skills relevant to provide comprehensive
primary health care/community based care to clients with common diseases and disorders
including emergency and first aid care at home/clinics/ centres as per predetermined
protocols/drug standing orders approved by MOH & FW - Provide maternal, newborn and child care, and reproductive health including adolescent
care in the urban and rural health care settings - Assess, diagnose, manage and refer clients for various communicable and non
communicable diseases, problems of older adults, mental health problems in the
community appropriately at the primary health care level - Participate in implementation of various national health programs and school health
program in the community.
